RE: Proposed changes to the timings of the school day
Following consultation with staff, parents and governors we can now confirm that we will change the structure of our school week, effective from after the half term in February (week commencing 24th February).
At Redbridge Primary School we are firmly committed to ensuring that our children continue to receive the highest standards of education through a broad and balanced curriculum. The changes to the school week will help to ensure that our Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) have dedicated time to meet with class teachers to share planning objectives as well as participate in regular targeted training. All of which will help to ensure that our children are receiving the best support and interventions from highly trained and dedicated adults at all levels.
With the exception of our nursery cohort, lessons for all children will end 55 minutes earlier on Fridays and the school day will end at 2.35pm.
The school is aware that the early closure may cause a challenge to working families, therefore are committed to provide an interim provision for those that need it on Fridays to bridge the gap between 2.35pm and 3.35pm. In order to access this provision, families will need to ensure that they meet the qualifying criteria as follows:
Working parents will qualify if:
- You currently pay for Future Stars afterschool club on a Friday.
- You cannot make alternative arrangements to have your child collected without having to leave work early and therefore will be financially disadvantaged (this includes registered home working)
- An older sibling collects your child on Fridays
- You are a carer for a family member and the change to school hours would result in you being unable to care for them in the same way.
- Your child has an EHCP and you cannot make alternative arrangements to collect your child early on Fridays.
At present this interim provision will be offered free of charge, however the school may need to consider charging a nominal rate of £1 per week which will be used to cover the cost of the additional provision should the demand for space exceed the availability.
In order to adequately plan for the start of the new term we are requesting that any family wishing to access this provision, complete the attached application and return it to the school office by Friday 22nd November 2019. Any applications received after this time may not be considered. In some cases the school may request that written evidence is provided to verify the application. Please note, outcomes of applications will be communicated to families as soon as we are in a position to do so, but by Friday 20th December at the latest.
