Spring is Here!

Over the Easter break, the first signs of Spring arrived at school. Some bulbs planted by reception children in November have now flowered and the first frogspawn has appeared in our school pond. The frogs appear not to mind the green water! Some of our year 6 pupils enjoyed exploring the garden during their Easter school ‘brain breaks!’
We are looking forward to a busy term in our garden. resident gardener Hilary will be working with various year groups and sharing some of our produce with the school kitchen, children and staff.

Summer Lunch Menu

The new school meals menu from ISS Catering is now on the school website. Due to the bank holiday on 7th May, chicken and vegetarian hotdogs will replace lamb lasagne on the 8th  May menu. Thank you to Jeya and her team for continuing to cook such a delicious menu each day.

Year 4 Egypt Topic

This week, Year 4 had a visit from Mr Egypt, as their new History topic is 'Ancient Egypt'. They learnt lots of new and interesting facts and had fun doing Egyptian maths and English. The children also had the chance to see and touch real Egyptian artefacts and had a mummy wrapping competition to end the day! They all had a fantastic learning experience and cannot wait to learn more about the topic.

Reception Class Caterpillars

Reception classes had the pleasure of looking after some caterpillars for their growing topic. They had to make sure the caterpillars were kept safe and couldn't be touched! The children got to see them forming their cocoons and when they grew into butterflies they released them into the garden on Monday. The children will miss their new friends !

For more information about the event go to www.bigpedal.org.uk. The children can park their bikes and scooters in the parking areas in KS2 and KS1 playgrounds. Please label your child’s bike or scooter with their name and class.

The Big Pedal

Get set… we’re taking part in Sustrans Big Pedal 2018, the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scooting challenge that inspires pupils, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their journey to school.

The challenge runs from 23rd April to 4th May. It’s free to enter and we would love everyone to be involved.

Why are we taking part?

It’s a great way to get more of our

pupils travelling to school on their bikes and scooters. We will be competing to become one of the UK’s top schools for two-wheeled journeys and will be in with a chance to win prizes including bike and scooter stunt shows and fantastic cycle and scooter storage. Parent and sibling journeys count too!

Road Safety

Thank you to parents and carers for a marked decline in the number of road safety incidents and complaints to the school during Spring Term. We are so grateful that care is being taken by school community and children’s safety comes first. Long may it last!

School Closures

A reminder that school will be closed on the 3rd May for Polling Day and 7th May for bank holiday. Summer term ends on 19th May for children.

Summer Term Non-Uniform Days

Children will be welcome to bring characters from our city’s past and present to life with a dress-up day on Friday 25th May.  This will form part of London History Day 2018.
At present, we have no further dress-up days planned, with the exception of Sports Days, where children can wear their PE kit and team colour t-shirt.

Trainee Teachers

We continue to welcome trainee teachers from the University of East London. Last term we had three very successful placements. Ms Khan will be joining Swans class from next week for most of the Summer term. It is always a privilege for us to be contribute to the development of the next generation of teachers and school leaders. We look forward to benefiting as much from our new trainee as I’m sure she will from us!
