February Computing at RPS

We have had an exciting start to our Spring 2  term with code club back in full swing and Miss Steel, our computing leader, hosting ‘UK Ed Chat’ this month Twitter. #Ukedchat is an online conversation for teachers and educators which reaches a global audience. The session was a huge success. Well done Miss Steel! We’re looking forward to our Year 2 Night Zookeeper day in March.

Spring Homework Projects

It’s been a busy Spring Half Term for our families, judging by thequality of the homework projects we have seen this month. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of time and effort which you have put into the homework projects and amazed by the way the children have talked about them. In Year 4, children continue to be excited by their 3D models of London, Paris and New York. Erin managed to use a 3D pen very successfully to make a model of the Eiffel Tower. Year 5 are embarking on an exciting history ‘Chronology’ topic and created some timelines of their own lives, and Year 3 are ready for battle with their Roman Shields.

Aquila Magazine Winner!

After many years of entering Aquila Magazine Competitions, Redbridge Primary School finally have a winner! Well done to Aaman from Ospreys class who won two beautiful new fiction books this week as he answered January’s competition questions correctly. Good luck to those who enter the March competition!

Year 3 Science Workshop

Mr Marriott, our special visitor, held a wonderful day of  science investigation on the topic of rocks and soils yesterday. Yaseen in Jackdaws class had a ’lovely day’ and particularly enjoyed using the pipette to pour water on the sand, clay and peat.  Thank you to Mrs Marriott for organising a lovely day and to Mr Marriott for delivering the sessions.

Chinese New Year

Our Chinese New Year celebrations were very exciting this month. The children in Goldcrests Reception class made a lovely Chinese New Year Dragon head, in celebration of the new year.  They practiced a dragon dance as a whole class and surprised the rest of the Reception cohort by visiting them and giving them a short performance! They enjoyed it so much that for P.E. this week they did a special dragon dance lesson!

Safer Internet Day - School Council Video Conference

This month we took part in Safer Internet Day with a series of assemblies and lessons about online safety. The children discussed the risks involved in being online and what to do if they see or hear something which they are uncomfortable with. Two local police officers visited us and our school council hosted a successful video conference with three other local schools.

Year 1 Italy Performance

Year 1 have been learning all about Italy this half term. It involved lots of fun activities including singing, cooking and a link with an Italian school. This culminated in a wonderful performance for parents in our KS1 Hall yesterday.

The children did a wonderful job, were articulate and entertaining. It made us all very proud. Our school link advisor from the Borough of Redbridge said it was ‘magical’.

Kites Class Y5 Assembly

On Wednesday we did an assembly about the Mayans. We had a lot of fun while performing to everyone. Everyone participated in the show and tried their best. I don’t know how anyone could make it better!”

Year 2 visit Pudding Lane

This month, Y2 went on a trip to central London. While we were there we had a guided tour from a lovely lady called Margaret. We saw many reminders and famous landmarks from the time and we learned about people who were famous at the time including Samuel Pepys and King Charles II. In the afternoon, we completed many fun activities including writing with a quill, clue finding and dressing up.  We really enjoyed walking along Pudding Lane where we saw Monument!

Holocaust Memorial Service

Redbridge Year 6 children bowed heads at Valentines Park last week as multi-faith leaders, politicians and other school children united at a Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony. Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin spoke about how lessons of the past had “still not been learned” as atrocities were still occurring.

It was an experience we will never forget. Antonio in Kestrels Class said that it was important not to ‘stand by and take action before it’s too late’. Neha found the speeches very touching.

Parent Craft Workshops

Parents from various year groups took part in some wonderful art and craft sessions las Friday. Paper quilling was very popular, and Incia’s Mum said that she“ loved the workshop, with Mrs Marriott and her helper  encouraging parents and children alike.” Ifaz liked working with his mum and “making the coils to create things.”

We also made paper mini-beasts during the session, which looked spectacular. Rayyan’s mum really enjoyed being part of it, and thought it was a ‘wonderful attempt to get parents and children working together.’ Thank you to Mrs Marriott for delivering the sessions to our families. It was a very special day.

Osprey Class Assembly

On Wednesday, Osprey class performed their fact-packed assembly about the fascinating Mayan civilisation. This consisted of interesting facts about the Mayan Gods, the Great Lord Pacal, their writing system and much more. As a result of the many facts, even Ospreys learned something new about the Mayans!”
