Winter Arts Festival

We had a wonderful afternoon at Cranbrook Primary School for the Winter Arts Festival on 26th January. This year's theme was 'Heal the World' and we were delighted to spend time with children from Mossford Green, Fullwood, Manford, Cranbrook,. Glade, Leverton and Cleveland Road Primary Schools. Our choir won a silver trophy for their performance of 'Fight Song' and our art club wall tapestry also won a silver trophy! Our dancers performed their piece, 'In the circle of Hope' beautifully. We were all very proud of them. Thank you to Mr Khan and Mr Bergmann for all of their hard work in preparing the children for the event. We can't wait until next year - the theme for 2019 is 'The Elements.'

Speech Competition

On Wednesday 31st January, five enthusiastic children from Year 6 participated in a Public Speaking competition against 11 other schools in Redbridge. It was hosted here at Redbridge Primary School and the aim of this competition was to provide them with the opportunity to speak to a large audience about a subject of their choice. They have worked extremely hard since the Autumn term to develop their speeches.

Joel and Ayaad were our speakers and did Redbridge proud by speaking clearly and formally, engaging the audience and answering challenging questions.  Samiha did a fantastic job of keeping the team on time through her job of chair person.  Hanna had the challenging role of thinking of questions for the speakers and thought about excellent questions.
Elizabete was on the judging panel and thought very hard about the quality of speeches and how they were

A huge congratulations and well done to all five children for showing determination throughout the term, as well as on the day! You were a real asset to our school.  Thank you to their families too, who helped supported them with their roles.

January Sports News

Our wonderful teachers have been applying all of their learning from a recent PE training session with their classes. This week, Year 5 have been working hard on producing sequences.

Well done to our Boccia and Athletics competition participants - more to follow in next month's blog post.

Eagles Class Assembly

Well done to Eagles class for a wonderful class assembly this week. The children did a fantastic job and it was a very poignant and sensitive performance. Thank you to Miss Porter for her hard work.

“During our class assembly, we expressed our knowledge on topics such as WWII and ‘The Piano’ film, with other children. This made me feel proud that another child learned something from me. My favourite part was the story about the Dagenham lemons as it made people feel about the history of Britain.”

Digital Leaders Kidsmeet at RPS

On Thursday 25th January, the digital leaders were treated to a talk with Mrs Malik, who works with digital leaders in Pakistan. She shared some of the ideas that she has taken from our school.  Our digital leaders created an excellent presentation explaining what it was like to be a digital leader at Redbridge Primary. They also worked alongside children from Oakdale Junior and Manford Primary School in mixed teams to create a greeting for the children in Pakistan. They collaborated well and produced some excellent work. One group created  the greeting “Hello from London” in Morse code using the crumble controller, while another group used scratch to introduce themselves in English and Urdu.

BETT 2018

This month has been extremely busy for our digital leaders! On Wednesday 24th January, 16 of our digital leaders attended the BETT convention at the Excel Centre, where they were able to experiment with new and upcoming technologies. We were extremely proud of how well the children behaved and their engagement with all the tasks ahead. Some children were even lucky enough to work with a TV crew, where they edited a live interview for BETT. It was a memorable day for all!

Digital Leaders

This week  we are making power points in preparation for our Kidsmeet. We made PowerPoints about what its like to be a digital leader. Lamarion (Eagles) and Joel (Kestrels) also helped to make a video about life as a digital leader.

Y6 Police Visit

This week, year 6 were visited by the local police to discuss safety in our local area. The focus was on how to stay safe if coming across any suspicious items such as drugs and to report them immediately. This advice will help support our year 6 children in their transition to secondary school and the wider community. Thanks officers!

Year 4 Editorial Team

Some children in Year 4  Swans have been working very hard to produce a magazine for others to enjoy. “We wanted to
design a magazine for children to enjoy.  We started by writing our ideas in a book. We also prepared our ideas at home and in break time.

It was a great pleasure to see the other children
doing our quizzes, puzzles and engaging with our magazine.” Please feel free to download and print your own copy of the magazine!

Rights of The Week

The articles we will be focusing on this week are:

Article 29: (goals of education) Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

Article 2 –All the rights applies to every child whatever their family background.

Our rights respecting champions have been extremely busy preparing presentations and their own assemblies with Mrs Azigbo.

Year 5 Air Action Project

This year, our year 5s have been involved in an important project called Redbridge Air Action.  They have been testing the air quality around our school, and investigating ways to reduce our exposure and the amount of pollution we produce.
On Wednesday 17th January they will be presenting their findings to the rest of the school in an assembly. Afterwards (during school pick up) they will be available around the entrance area to talk to parents and carers about their project and will also hand out leaflets and stickers.  We will also post an update on our school next week.

Come and Join our PTA team!

The PTA will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Friday 26th January at 3.45pm in the Arts Space.  Please come along and find out more about how you can help our school. PTA members are made up of parents who work in partnership with the school to organise events for our school community.  It is a rewarding role because you get to know other parents and it is a great achievement to be able to contribute to the school as well as enhance our children’s education by providing us with much needed resources and equipment. If you cannot commit to the PTA but would still like to support us then please consider becoming a PTA Volunteer.

You can contact Redbridge Primary School PTA by Email: redbridge@hotmail.com or via WhatsApp or Facebook: Redbridge Primary School PTA.

Welcome Back to School!

We would like to wish all members of our school community a happy and healthy 2018.  A big well done to all of our fantastic children for settling back in so well. We are very excited to see what this year will bring!
