RPS at BETT 2016

This month, seven members of our school code club  presented to a large audience at the international BETT Technology Show in the Excel Centre. George from Year 4 said it was a ’very good experience’ and he particularly enjoyed the NASA workshop. Our experience and contribution to the day was summed up nicely in some feedback from one of the event ‘s organisers:

“We just wanted to say how impressed we were by the 7 members of your Code Club who participated in KidsMeet at the BETT Show with their teachers and parents. Their presentation about ‘Classrooms of the Future’ not only showed confidence and vision, but the way they talked and co-operated provoked further discussion amongst the audience. Your children really embraced the idea of working with others from another school. Watching their energy and enthusiasm made us smile; their movement, language and art showed great creativity and imagination!”

Year 5 British Museum Ancient Maya Visit, by Iman

"Going  to the British Museum was an extraordinary experience. The place was amazing! I saw things I had never seen before and it was like walking through history. It is a trip I will never forget.”

Maths Week

This week has been Maths Week in school. It has been an exciting week with lots of fun activities and lessons taking place. The theme of the week was ‘Maths across the Curriculum’. Each class linked their Maths learning to an area of the curriculum they are currently studying, we had Mayan pyramid building, collecting and representing data linked to work in Science and even penguin Maths!

When helping your child in Maths, it is crucial that links are made between Maths and the real world. If you would like any suggestions on how to best support your child at home, please speak to your class teacher. Thank you to Mrs Southall for organising the event!

Top Marks to our Kitchen Staff!

Environmental Services carried out a routine inspection on our kitchen this week. They praised our service, choice of food and the work of our staff.
“All children were served quickly; no child had to wait. The food was quickly replenished including the salad bar throughout the service. Good team work by all the kitchen staff”.
We would like to thank our kitchen and midday staff for their hard work and dedication.

School Council Trip to Parliament

Our School Councillors visited the Houses of Parliament on January 7th. The councillors were luckily enough to watch a live debate from the House of Commons Viewing Gallery before being given a tour of the House of Lords.

Democracy is one of the British Values which we promote at RPS and our councillors learned a great deal about the Suffragette movement during a workshop before taking part in our very own question and answer session with our local MP, Wes Streeting. It was a very busy and enjoyable day!  Parmveer and Zuhair said “The trip was amazing! We had a great time watching the MP’s debate in the House of Commons.”

Redbridge Boccia Competition

Well done to our three Boccia finalists who competed at a Redbridge  competition on January 7th. It was an exciting event, with many other schools attending. We were very proud of our school representatives and look forward to the next event!

RPS Sports Update January 2016

Sportshall Athletics
Miss Cornwall and Mr Miah took a squad of year 5/6 children to Beal High School to compete against other schools in the borough. They took part in a variety of sports including javelin, long jump, triple jump, relays and speedbounce. The children showed great resilience, determination and team spirit. A special congratulations goes to Hasan and Jaiden in Eagles Class for taking bronze (3rd place) in speedbounce against a total of 36 schools and 432 students. Please take a look at our display of events outside the ICT suite.

We now have our second round of fixtures for the school netball team. These matches will be played at Redbridge Sports Centre on a Tuesday after school.  You are welcome to come along and support the team. Good luck to the team and most importantly have fun.

There is a basketball competition for year 5/6 coming up in March. We will be selecting some of our students to represent our school in the next few weeks.
