Events in Manchester

We have been thinking about all of those affected by the Manchester attack this week. Mrs Raj led a special assembly for KS2 and all classes observed a minute’s silence yesterday. The children in Swallows class have been very reflective and created some wonderful posters.

May Science News

We had the science dome for pupils in Year 6, Year 3, reception and nursery. It was a great opportunity for our pupils to develop their understanding of volcanoes, natural selection and dinosaurs.

Our Science workshop was a success, which was an opportunity for our pupils to be involved in interactive science activities. A big thank you to some of our pupils who kindly organised the stands.

Y1 Visit the Golden Hinde

By Senith and Inaaya, Cuckoos Class

On Tuesday we went on our school trip called the Golden Hinde. We all enjoyed going on the pirate ship to find treasure. All the children sat down with their sketch books and drew the ship. We got to fire some canons and sing some songs.

Y4 Visit the London Eye - by Marukh Khan

As a school trip, we went to the London Eye. We had lots of fun and my Dad got to come with me as a volunteer. A few boys were scared to go on it because they had never been there before. After the London Eye, we watched a 4D movie and we got to wear 4D glasses too. We felt some rain soaking us during the movie.  It was a very fun day and I really enjoyed it. The best part was when we were at the very top of the London Eye. I have been on the London Eye six whole times in my entire life, even though I am only eight years old.

Parent Workshops

Thank you to all of the parents who have attended the various workshops on offer over the past few weeks, from kite-making to reasoning in maths. We really appreciate your positive feedback and support for the school. Slides from the Mathematical Reasoning workshop are available in the Curriculum > Maths Guides section of the website.

London Fire Brigade

The children in the AM Nursery had a visit from the Ilford Fire Brigade as part of their topic on transport. The children had a chance to sit in the fire engine and have a go at putting out a pretend fire with the hose. Thank you to the firemen for coming along and talking to us about safety. We had a great morning including the staff as you can see from the photos.
PM Nursery will be meeting the team very soon.

Year 6 SATs

Well done to our year children and teachers for their hard work and perseverance in preparing for this week’s SATs tests. They all did a wonderful job and we hope they have a good rest this weekend.
Thanks to the parents and carers for ensuring that they came to school early each morning this week.

Swans Class Assembly By Maheen and Ayman (Y4)

During our class assembly we shared the facts about Victorians and Anglo-Saxons. We also showed the parents and pupils what it was like in the Victorian eta and during Anglo-Saxon times. A few children showed their brooches which we made in school. The thing we enjoyed the most was how we integrated our various topics into a role play.

Year 4 Anglo-Saxon Art and Design by Sia and Hiba, Owls Class

The first step in our Anglo-Saxon pottery creation was to make a round base out of clay. Secondly was the gooey ‘slip’ (water and clay). Mrs Southall’s catchphrase was ‘hashtag slip’! Next we made coils and stuck them around the base. Finally we designed it to look like an artefact from the Anglo-Saxon times. All thanks to our teachers for making this an excellent event. We love school!

School Mosaic

We’ve had our final visit of the year from artist Jim Anderson this week to complete work on his mosaic in the Key Stage 2 Playground. Jim has a longstanding relationship with the school, over the past 13 years, and has produced the most wonderful mosaics which we enjoy every day. We look forward to seeing him again in 2021 when we  are a full 4 form-entry school and have 5 new class birds to create!

Fidget Spinners

We have taken the decision to ban fidget spinners from the school premises for a number of reasons. Children have been informed of this decision in assemblies. If we do happen to come across any spinners, they will be confiscated and parents will need to collect them from the school office the following day. We would value your support on this matter.

Staff Collaboration Project with Fullwood Primary School

Staff from both Redbridge and Fullwood have been working together on research projects which will lead to even better opportunities and outcomes for children across both schools. They presented these at a joint INSET on Wednesday 3rd May.
