Ramadan Mubarak

We wish our school community a peaceful and blessed month of Ramadan. It would be beneficial for all those children who are fasting to go home at lunchtime and rest.  However, we are aware that this is not always possible.  Please return the letter to your child’s class teacher to indicate whether fasting is taking place, either for the whole month or intermittent days.

London History Day

We have ended the half term in style with a special celebration of London History Day. The
atmosphere has been wonderful and both staff and
children alike have embraced the celebration with open arms! Thank you to Miss Porter, our history curriculum leader, for organising the event.

“Today we are celebrating London History Day. I believe that is a great way for children to appreciate the city’s past. I chose to dress up as a suffragette as I think they were the strongest group of women in history. They were passionate about voting and have had an effect on London today”

Olympic Torch Comes to RPS!

We were extremely lucky to have a visit by Nino Severino a former British No 1 Tennis & Olympic Coach. Nino spoke to our children about the importance of pupil health and well-being. He also gave a presentation about famous athletes and their journey from school days to becoming an Olympian and winning medals. As a special treat the children got to see the famous Olympic Torch that was carried across the country to the Olympic Games Stadium in 2012.

Fairlop Waters Day Out

A group of children visited Fairlop Waters for a day of activities this week. They experienced a boat ride on the lake where they saw lots of different wildlife including some newly born goslings and ducklings. The children even got to steer the boat around the lake which was extremely exciting! Next was a visit to the climbing wall where the children were harnessed up  to climb the wall. Some climbed right to the very top and had to abseil back down! Finally the children visited the Boat House where they had a mile long race on land rowers.  Everyone had a great time and we look forward to our next visit.

Year 1 Kite Making Workshop

This month, some children in Year 1 had a fun time making kites with their parents, and then flying them on our school field. The weather was perfect for flying kites and  the kites  flew really high!

Share a Pencil Day

Share a Pencil Day is a day of awareness and education.  It is a fun and interactive way for us to explore the reasons why millions of children globally are missing out on an education, and why that matters.  We will be celebrating this day on the afternoon of Wednesday 23rd of May 2018 by hosting a special assembly and take part in various activities in the classroom.

Our whole school homework this week will be a poster Design Competition entitled “I love school because…” is a chance for children to think about all the good things going to school means. Reflecting on the positive elements of school is important. One well-illustrated poster will be selected from each class and used as a display around the school so have fun being creative!

The Big Pedal

A big thank you to all of the children who rode their bike or scooter to school during our Big Pedal Week. We had a brilliant response from our pupils. The rides to school were recorded each day and sent to London Borough of Redbridge to add to our School Travel Plan. Cycling and scooting to school is a fantastic way to keep fit and healthy. Please continue to ride to school everyone!
