Meet the Chair of Governors
Mr David Backhouse
David’s first governance role was as an elected Parent Governor at Mayfield School. A year later, in 1988 he was elected Chair – a post he still holds today.
He became a National Leader of Governance in the first cohort of NLGs in 2012. NLGs are experienced Chairs of Governors who are deployed to use their knowledge and experience to support other Governing Bodies. He has had supported Governing Bodies in Barking & Dagenham, Hackney and Waltham Forest, as well as in Redbridge.
In June 2013, he was appointed by the DfE to the Secretary of State’s (SoS’s) Interim Executive Board (IEB) at Eastbury Primary in Barking & Dagenham and became its Vice Chair, a post he still holds. The school became an academy in April 2016, academisation being the only way forward from an SoS IEB.
David is Chair at Grove Primary and Interim Chair at Barley Lane Primary. He is a Primary Sector Governor representative on the Schools Forum and is currently its Chair.
He was born in Romford, educated at Ilford County High and then spent 45 years in the telecoms industry. For the last ten years, he has been a volunteer at Barnardo’s in its work supporting Young Carers, something he has become passionate about. In 2010, he was Barnardo’s National Volunteer of the Year.
Ms Talat Ahmed
Parent Governor (Vice Chair)
Mr Ranadip Chatterjee
Mr Khawaja Mushtaq
I know the school well. My first child is currently in her first year at secondary school attended Redbridge Primary School from year 4 and my second child, in year 3, is in the school since Reception. I am quite familiar with the functions and duties of School Governors and shall bring to the role a keen sense of duty, attention to detail and a willingness to learn. I will listen to the concerns of parents and will be sensitive to the aims and aspirations of the Management of the school. I am Law Graduate and worked in Law firms.
Mr Yassir Din
As a parent of 2 children in RPS I feel passionate about helping maintain the high standards of the school. My career has provided me with the necessary management and diplomatic skills to successfully work with broad team of individuals with different responsibilities to reach a common goal.
My goal will always be to help with the advancement of the school which will ultimately give our children the best educational opportunities. I will work cohesively with all stakeholders with openness and transparency.
Mr Zaid Furreedan
I am standing for Parent Governor because I want to represent the views of parents fairly, support the staff, whilst ensuring a stable environment is provided for our children (including my son in Y1). Following an unsettling year, I believe holding regular meetings with parents is the first step to building confidence and trust between the GB and RPS stakeholders.
I have previously led programmes for key Public / Private Sector Organisations focusing on Performance Improvement and Change Management. I believe drawing on my experience will provide a balanced and objective view to the group whilst ensuring our children’s interests come first.
Meet the Staff Governor
Miss Kaye Cornwall
My experience in working for Redbridge Primary for eighteen years stands me in good stead for the role. As school games organiser, I enjoy seeing the children reach their full potential in sport as well as academia. My outside experience working with sports clubs and sports companies both abroad and in the UK as a coach/official has provided me with the knowledge to maintain a high standard in the safeguarding of the children.
It is my aim that every child in Redbridge Primary represents the school in sports during their time in our school. I look forward to making a valuable contribution as a staff governor and doing everything I can to support the school in providing a safe, nurturing environment for all pupils to enjoy and achieve.
